Hello! I’m reaching a little bit out of desperation, my manual “active” wheelchair (aka the small self propelled type that can fold and is a unibody), is broken, the frame has fractured before one of the front wheels.
Currently a resident in the Tokyo area, I have 2 months left before I can go back home and try to get it fix so I’d love to know if you had :
Any advice on where I could try and get it fixed (even if just temporarily).
Any resellers of active wheelchairs in the Tokyo area ?Any places that rent those type of chairs specifically?
I’ve tried several medical equipment rental place around my apartment but none had any active wheelchairs or could give advice so any info is useful!- 3 Replies
You can try searching for “福祉” on Google Maps. You should be able to find places that sell wheelchairs. Manual wheelchairs are not very expensive.
Or you can check on Mercari to see if there are any second-hand ones.
Good evening. I know someone at Wheelchair-rental.jp. They specialize in wheelchair rentals, but they also handle new and used wheelchairs. Their main area is Tokyo. Why not just send them an email? Wheelchair-Rental.jp
A broken one-piece frame could mean the whole frame might need to be replaced. Your best bet might be to try a reseller/branch office if they do rental or can offer a fix, like Permobil PKK Japan who resell TiLite active chairs, or Japanese domestic wheelchair companies like TIG Titanium, Miki Mobility, MATSUNAGA. I’m not sure how English friendly they are though as I haven’t personally dealt with them.
