Planning a visit to the north of Belgium? “Leuven accessible for everyone” is the latest example of hands-on accessibility guides in Flanders, Belgium. Previously, the Flanders Fields region, Bruges and Mechelen already developed similar touristic publications, available in English.
Like many historical places in northern Europe, the university town of Leuven has its share of narrow streets and cobblestones. A new walking map now aims to make it all worthwhile by guiding you along the art city’s main highlights, while avoiding the worst stretches of cobbles and other obstacles. The brochure contains accessibility information about the bars, restaurants, museums and public toilets on the way. Everything in this publication has been audited by independent (experience) experts. Able-bodied and disabled visitors will enjoy its user-friendly no-nonsense style.

That is fantastic! Cobblestone hurts!
Perhaps a guided route should be the next thing we try at Accessible Japan

My office (Visit Flanders) was closely involved in these productions, and for the brochure about my hometown Leuven I wrote most of the information. So, feel free to contact me if you want to visit one of these places or if you think about making a similar publication.
