Hi guys, Just managed to hire a WHILL mobility scooter directly from their Japanese website. The website is entirely in Japanese and was impossible to navigate , so I emailed the company and a lovely man called Fred emailed me a brochure in English that shows you step by step how to fill in the form. It was a huge relief and a huge help. fred.dillmann@whill.inc I will give you a heads up they don’t accept debit cards or prepaid cards or PayPal, you must use a credit card. Good luck xx

So little update, I’ve just heard from Fred this morning and he sent me an instruction leaflet on how to use the mobility scooter when i get it, in English. He’s been so helpful, above and beyond!

So, I’m here in Japan at the moment and my WHILL scooter was here waiting for me. They sent a brand new one straight out of the box and I love it. So glad I didn’t get the wheelchair now. I use a scooter at home and it’s what I’m used to. Have a great trip, you’ll love it here, it’s an amazing place

That’s wonderful Eileen, I’m so happy for you and thanks for sharing! Have a wonderful holiday! Out of interest, and only if you have time to reply with all the fun you’re having, how much did they charge you? (Though I’d pay any price for that freedom!)

Thanks so much for all the information. No rush as I’m not going until October next year but can you give me a rough cost please? Preferably in Australian but if in Japanese I’ll work it out.

If it’s ok I’d love to hear what places you can’t access with a scooter. I’m so scared of going. There are 6 others going on the same trip but they are all able bodied. Thankyou so very much!

51,720 yen which is around £266 GBP. It’s been a great week scooter for getting around. Robust, sturdy, comfortable and even a whole day at Universal Studios the charge only went down to 42%.

I was based in Ginza Tokyo, we visited Osaka twice on the Shinkansen, Shibuya Crossing on the Ginza Line. Personally I preferred the mobility scooter, I also had my manual wheelchair with me for use at the airports which I used on two days out where my scooter was tricky to manage. What I did find was that their lowered/accessibility kerbs were quite chunky and sometimes quite steep. At the time my thoughts were “how on earth does someone get up this in an electric wheelchair”. I use all 3 at home, manual wheelchair, electric wheelchair and mobility scooter. My scooter is always my favourite, my lifeline to the world
