Volunteer assistance for days out
Hi,
I’m ambulatory, but with poor balance, and my legs aren’t super flexible. I’m hoping to travel to Japan before the end of the year to ride some rollercoasters, but also value my independence as a solo traveller.
Rather than take the prohibitively expensive and probably overkill step of hiring a carer for my entire time there just for help…
Im not sure if Im doing this right or not! we will see! My daughter will be brining a foldable scooter. she just got diagnosed with ALS and falls easy so we thought a folding scooter is best for her. how hard is it to get around? Im excited we are going to Japan in November, but nervous at the same time.

We will be in Japan in one month! We are bringing our Atto mobility scooter. Does anyone know if the local buses that are accessible allow for us to bring it on? My wife can navigate some spaces with canes. Do the busses “kneel”?
Yes, the regular route buses kneel and the driver will provide a ramp for you to get on. (In the city, they are nearly all accessible but as you go to the country, they may still have non-kneeling buses on some routes.)
Inter-city highway buses do not though. 🙁
