Looking to Buy a Wheelchair
Looking to Buy a Wheelchair
Posted by Retrowhale on June 26, 2025 at 2:57 pmHello there, my brother has cerebral palsy and visiting Japan in august. He is using an old wheelchair so my mom is planning to ditch the old one in Turkey(where they live) and buy a better one in Osaka when they arrive.
my brother is unable to use powered wheelchair because he has epilepsy so doctors do not suggest that. We are looking for a light and budget friendly options in Japan. I would appreciate if anyone knows websites or brands that match our criteria 🙏

Depending what you want, there are actually many manual wheelchairs sold on Amazon in Japan. If you aren’t looking for anything custom, I’ve heard of people having items delivered to their hotel.
A well known shop is called Abilities – https://www.abilities.jp/techno-aid/fukusiyougu/mobility – think they have an Osaka show room.
@tak is based in Osaka and likely has some suggestions as well.
Thanks for the reply Josh. I have come up to hukusi-orosi.jp website. Their catalogue looks more within our budget and needs. Any chance you know of this website?🙏
I’ve never heard of them…
You may want to partner with someone “on the ground” as you may have some issues delivering to a hotel from them. But, worth a try!
The other thing you may want to keep in mind is getting it repaired back in Türkiye. Just check that the tire sizes are available etc. You don’t want to bring it back, get a puncture and find there are no tires the same size etc.
Thank you Josh 🙏 we can ship it to Matsuyama(where my mother in law lives) and go there directly after landing at worst case scenario😇 but of course it is better to grab it right after arrival to Japan
Dear Josh
Thank you for everything.
Tak
Hello Tak, thank you for the suggestion but my brother is interested in self-propelled which he can lift arm rests. 😇
Oh. How about this one then?
Aloha, Josh…do you know of any wheelchair companies in Tokyo or Yokohama that can make a custom manual wheelchair in one week? I wanted to purchase a wheelchair similar to this one: https://www.abilities.jp/techno-aid/fukusiyougu/mobility/Manual_Wheelchair/wheelchair-rgk-octanesub4
I will be visiting Japan in November. Please let me know.
Mahalo,
Bryant
I would be very surprised if it was possible, if custom anyways. You could likely buy a “off the shelf” model, but customization would take time. Your best bet would be to contact them directly I’m afraid…

Thank you, Josh. I appreciate your prompt response. Have a great day!
Hello, I am looking for a wheelchair.
My wheelchair is inexpensive and durable.
The price is about 30,000JPY for a new one.
If you need help with your purchase or anything else, talk to me.
Tak
Thank you, Tag! We will consider 🙏
