Norovirus in Japan?
Norovirus in Japan?
Posted by seemerollin on May 6, 2025 at 8:10 pmHello, I’ve been seeing more and more reports on social media saying that norovirus is currently spreading rapidly in Japan. Is that true? I’m flying to Japan in two weeks and, due to my medical condition, I’m now feeling worried and a bit scared about the trip.
Thank you for any answers or help.Gaven replied 3 months ago 3 Members · 4 Replies- 4 Replies
Hey there, love your username!
I live in Japan and after reading your message, you made me check the news. There are some cases for sure, but nothing that is making the daily evening news. So, I feel if you look you’ll find it, but nothing making the morning/evening news like serious outbreak would. I did some searches and the only thing I could find were some schools etc where everyone was eating the same thing.
Obviously, you know your condition better than anyone and which risks you are willing to take, so the final judgement lays with you, but there are currently no “outbreaks” etc.
Thanks so much for your kind reply and for checking the news, that really reassures me! I’ve been a bit nervous, so hearing this helps a lot. I’m definitely already excited about the trip and really looking forward to Japan! I just hope everything will be manageable with the wheelchair, but I’m staying optimistic.
Thanks again for taking the time to look into it and for sharing your local insight, it means a lot!
Of course! We’re all here to support each other!
I use a power wheelchair too 👍

Hello, I just wanted to chime in that I caught Norovirus in Japan. I was in Tokyo from the 16th to the 28th of April. I only learned now that it was Norovirus and luckily didn’t infect my assiatant. I don’t know where I exactly I caught it, but I was mostly around Asakusa and suspect it was from one of the Sushi places.
