Posted by stoneman4172 on October 29, 2023 at 3:32 pmHi, I’m a wheelchair user travelling to Tokyo and Osaka by myself in late April. I’m looking for what options are there to hire a tour companion/guide/helper to help me get around? i know Ohayo Travel can help with planning but are there other options?

Hello,
Glad to hear you are planning a visit!
Just to clarify, are you hoping the travel helper will help you with personal care? Or just to go around with you and act as a one-to-one guide?
Hi Josh, I can take care of my personal care. Just need help getting around. I’m happy to mixed it up with a tour guide and local helper if that is better. Not likely that I will be too efficient nor functional to explore by myself. I can’t speak Japanese and would like to make some new friends to hang out while there.
You might want to try Tours By Locals (One of my friend is a guide for them in Hiroshima). You can filter the search results by “wheelchair accessible” and then can communicate with the guide about your needs.
From what I understand they can be much more flexible than other guides and offer personalized tours in most cases. So you could just tell them what you need and you can work out the details from there.
Tokyo:

Osaka:

Click “More” at the top of the page and choose “Wheelchair accessible” as a filter.
Thx Josh, will try them out
I was in japan last month and i followed this guide , you can check it out : https://www.japanfortwo.travel/exploring-japan-on-wheels-a-disabled-travelers-experience/
