Help with Wheelchair use and needs in Japan
Hello, I am traveling to Japan in March. I am a very limited walker who wears braces. I know at Disneyland I can rent an electric scooter. I am assuming in Disney see I can also rent one. Does anyone know if I need to reserve it ahead of time. I’m also wondering at other places like temples, can I get a wheelchair there just for that…

It is first come first serve and they are very limited so I recommend getting there early. Also, be aware, the electric scooters in Disney are VERY slow. They go a max of 2km per hour. I’m in a similar situation of not being able to walk full Disney days as an above the knee amputee. You might find this helpful. …

We had great luck on the top floors of department stores … generally a variety of restaurants, easy elevator access, and you can eyeball which will fit a wheelchair (though leaving outside was an option..) Bonus is sometimes you get city views too :-).

Hi there! I am also partially ambulatory and had no issues either leaving my wheelchair (it’s foldable) near the restaurant entrance or even outside (like at a mall or food court).

If you are leaving from Shinjuku you will use the Fuji Kaiju that goes to Mt Fuji/Kawaguchiko.
As for buying them, in theory you can buy them through eki-net.com but I’m not sure you can select the accessible seat there. (I tried to quickly check but you needed an account and my login for the Japanese version didn’t work for some reason..)

As Josh mentioned, you can make your reservation at ticket window or online. Honestly speaking, the process to book wheelchair seats at Eki-Net is cumbersome, especially wheelchair travelers. Book. Whilst there’s plenty of trains there are only a few wheelchair seats per train and everyone else reserves them. You need to turn up 30 minutes before your train which departs on the second at it’s scheduled time.
