  • Transportation and tour guides

I have reached out to the tour operators that are listed on the Accessible Japan website and I haven’t been able to get much response. I’m looking for transportation. I am currently in the process of getting one quote that I started last night and waiting on hearing a back about that, but I also would like to know if anyone has any experience…

    • Hi Bre

Can I ask when you sent your requests to the operators? Did you use the form or go to their websites directly? We (I run Accessible Japan and tabifolk) had a server issue a few weeks ago and emails didn’t get sent. This may have been when you sent your request…

    • Naples, Italy

Will be taking a cruise in late spring and one of our ports will be Naples. Any guidance on how we might spend a day in the area separate from going to Pompeii? We are two travelers, one who uses a manual wheelchair.

      • Are you attempting Pompeii? We did Herculaneum instead. I was doable in a power chair. The viewing platforms and accessibility was excellent. Good luck…..otherwise just eat Pizza!!!

        • @Donna I wish we had gone to herculeum instead of! I was not using a wheelchair at the time but I am not sure Pompeii is easy on wheels. I remember the cobblestones being pretty uneven. The streets around Naples can probably be done in a wheelchair even if just to take in the views.

          Hello Everyone.

I recently came across Accessible Japan Blog and found it very helpful. I wanted to ask if you happen to know whether a Philippine PWD ID is recognized or accepted in Japan.

I have a psychosocial disability and was wondering if presenting my Philippine PWD ID and/or a medical certificate would be sufficient when accessing…

          • Regarding transport, I would think most of them would not accept foreign issued disability certificates. But you always can ask and they may allow you to purchase disability discount.
Other than that each venue management has its own rule for disability discount. So you should ask every time to check whether or not they accept your Philippine PWD ID.

            • I’ve been to Manila, Philippines before!

By the way, what kind of public transportation or attraction tickets are you looking to purchase in Japan?

I can also help check and confirm the requirements for you.

            • Use of portable "stadium seat" at event venues?

Our party of four adults will be visiting Japan in April 2026. My 75 year old mother has mobility issues and upright seating needs following back surgery. She can walk shorter distances with a cane, but will use a wheelchair or scooter for longer distances (we will rent something while in Japan). My question, however, is about seating… we…

              • Hello

Glad you are finding our site helpful.

While I have not seen something like this myself, I cannot see it being an issue. I found similar ones for home use

I know that @wilgo helps out a lot with people going to sumo and other events, perhaps he can comment?
