  • Hotel or Airbnb or any place to stay in Kyoto

I have a trip to Kyoto planned for March 31-April 4 and the only wheelchair accessible hotel is over $500/night. Can anyone help with reasonable accomodations? I only expect to sleep there and be out and about for the days. I don’t care if it is a bit on the outskirts if there is a subway station with an elevator nearby.

    • We stayed at Hotel Emion in Kyoto, one local train stop away from Kyoto Station. It was less than $200/night a couple weeks ago. The station has an elevator and wider gate for wheelchair exit/entry. The hotel itself was wheelchair accessible. We stayed (family of 3) in a barrier-free room. You might ask them for pictures of it and see if it…

      • Hello.☺️

I completely understand how you feel. However, this time of year is the busiest tourist season in Kyoto. Also, there are still relatively few wheelchair-accessible rooms in Japan. I don’t know which hotel you found, but did you find Granvia Kyoto or Prince Smart Inn Kyoto Sanjo? If you are planning to travel by public transport,…

      • Does anyone know if those of us who are ambulatory can use the cable cars in San Francisco for a “round trip” journey? I know I’ll probably need a step of some sort to get in, but I can get in & out on my own.

What is the best way to sightsee in the following Tokyo, Kyoto, Osaka, and Hiroshima? Is there accessible tours or can we do it on our own?

        • It is definitely possible to do on your own. I have been doing that since 2000! That being said it can be a lot more work as you need to research places etc. We have a fair bit on Accessible Japan to get you started and you are more than welcome to ask specific questions here too!

            Hi
We are planning to travel to Japan in November. We are 3 and my 16 year old son is fully wheelchair dependent. We have decided to bring his manual wheelchair and will fly into Narita airport, with a stay in Tokyo specifically for Akihabara district and Pokepark, bullet train to Osaka where we will stay for 2 nights and visit universal studios.
