        Flying with a Disability
        tabifolk 2 years ago

“For disabled passengers who need to reduce the risk of pressure sores, a 4-hour session in a Skynest pod could open up new opportunities for safe, long-distance travel at a fraction of the cost of a business class seat. Presumably, wheelchair users could be assisted from their economy class seat to the Skynest’s lower bunk using an onboard aisle wheelchair.”

Would you pay if it meant that you could travel further?

Airline Plans to Offer Hourly Bed Rentals to Coach Passengers - Wheelchair Travel

Air New Zealand will permit economy class passengers on ultra long-haul flights to the USA to rent a bunk bed for a portion of the flight.

Certainly is tempting! Would be nice if there was a discount for travelers with disabilities…

An airline not wanting to make a profit as much as possible? That will happen when they’re competing against flying pigs.

Hahahaha In honor of that, a Dall-e painting of flying pigs competing with an airline

Agreed 100%! At the estimated price it’s tempting indeed, but a discount OR an extended time for travelers with disabilities would be great. Although I kind of hope it would be only available at the gate and to travelers with disabilities first, or I’m afraid it would just be fully booked almost instantly online before travelers with disabilities could even consider it (I’m not sure if that’s “fair” though). Ultimately as an alternative, for long flights I think the opposite would be nice, all bunks instead of seats and a lounge/seating area for sitting and eating by reservation (I’d pay a bit extra for that for sure). But, this is a good step in the right direction.
              🙂

Perhaps after it rolls out, they will see it is commonly booked by seniors and people with disabilities and will spread to more flights and airlines…

I’d use this. I have a hard time napping or sleeping in an airline seat because my body tends to contract when I fall asleep. I do wonder if they have power outlets so you can use a CPAP while sleeping.
