Really sad to hear how Chrissy was denied at first – can’t believe they wouldn’t just accept she needs a pass due to being a double amputee. Glad they finally came around when she pushed back. Stuff like this is definitely worth raising awareness about.

As they mentioned, a lot of people have sadly taken advantage of services provided for those living with disabilities. Having gone to Disney World many times in my youth and adult life I saw this happen as well as Disney’s response to it virtually in real time.

At first, just being in my wheelchair (or a Disney rental scooter/wheelchair) I was able to skip lines and get on rides with my family rather quickly, this was very welcoming in hot Florida Summers. However, people started realizing this service was available, at one point Disney’s scooter/wheelchair rentals went from available to complete booked early in the day! A friend who worked there told me some people even borrowed wheelchairs from family members, not out of need, but to cut the lines! People who actually needed these rental services, were finding them unavailable. Disney’s response then was to re-structure their ride waiting lines to be wide enough to fit a wheelchair, added some cover from the sun to some lines (hardly helped), and do away with most of the line skips. So, now everyone had to wait in hour+ lines, and of course scooter rentals returned to normal levels as it could no longer be abused. I wouldn’t say this was the best response, as it just makes it more difficult on people living with disabilities (personally, the long wait wasn’t worth risking my health in the heat, so I stopped going on rides), and it makes Disney question every person living with a disability as a potential cheater like we see here.
