Hi Everyone. I’m the parent of a young person who has autism and I’ve been working for an accessible travel consultancy for the previous few years. I’m also completing a Diploma of Access Consulting.
Last year I has an opportunity to go to the Darwin Aboriginal Art Fair, which is a fantastic event for anyone interested in indigenous art. The fair is held at the Darwin Convention Centre which has a high degree of mobility accessibility and the foundation that runs the event is actively working on improving the accessibility of the event.
The Darwin waterfront has a changing place facility and a roll-in wave pool and there is step-free access to the Deckchair Cinema, further along the waterfront. The cinema also has a Wavecast sound system that works with hearing augmentation devices.
Darwin in the dry season is a great way to escape winter in southern Australia.
