        Hello all! My name is Ally Hongo, the co-founder of the Japan Travel Awards. One of the Awards’ core categories is Best Accessible Travel and I wanted to reach out to everyone for recommendations of Japan-based accessible places that deserve to be recognized.

        If, during your travels, you’ve encountered an exceptional place in Japan that stood out as accessible, please share here and we’ll reach out to them with a recommendation to enter the awards. The Japan Travel Awards are completely free all the way through, and large and small businesses can compete on the same level. So your recommendations can be anything from a large hotel chain to a one-man-operated accessible tour. The idea behind the awards is to find destinations in Japan that stand out for their efforts to be inclusive and sustainable. And one of our core judges who has been with us since day one, is tabifolk’s very own founder, Josh!

        You can view past winners here for ideas of what we’re looking for. https://japantravelawards.com/en-winners

        Thank you so much!

          Hi We are happy we came across this group. My husband recently developed problems with his knees and can only walk about .5km and very few steps. He has a cane currently. He wants to go to Japan for 3 weeks, including Hokkaido. Any links/itineraries including limited mobility sites to visit for a relaxing yet interesting visit – please send info! Thanks so much!

              @happyorchid Hi Happyorchid-san,

              How unfortunate that your husband’s knees are bothering him.

              If you don’t mind a Japanese-language website, this site has model itineraries for wheelchair travelers in Hokkaido. If you would like, you can use the translation button to refer to it.

              We are a travel agency specializing in wheelchair travel, but personally, I had the most wonderful time traveling with my wheelchair-using daughter to Biei and Furano (in Hokkaido) during the summer!

              I think there is another adventure waiting for you that you won’t find in Tokyo or Kyoto.

              I hope you and your husband have a memorable and wonderful trip!
