We have just come back from Japan and we have a lightweight electric wheelchair and had no problems getting on trains metro etc.Depends where you are going but again most shops had good access only problem we had was a lot of restaurants are either up a lot of stairs or down steep stairs and as already mentioned although Japan is very safe it is also very crowded so your chair may get in the way if left outside .We are already planning to go back !
