Reply To: What is the procedure for getting the rugular trains
Hello,
Here is the general proceedure: https://www.accessible-japan.com/wheelchair-accessible-trains-and-subways-in-japan/
For JR, you need to wait at the ticket gate after telling the staff where you want to go until someone comes to guide you. So, buy ticket (if not JR Pass) → give it to staff at slightly wider ticket gate (or show JR Pass) → tell staff where you want to go → wait on other side of ticket booth for someone to come.
The response time can vary a lot depending on the station. Since over 4 million people go through Shinjuku station every day… you tend to be made to wait. Even at Shinjuku it can vary from 5-20 minutes depending on time of day etc.
