Hello everyone I’m delighted to meet you. My name is Jo and I’ll be coming to Japan for two weeks in October Which I’m very excited about!

I’m sorry I was unable to view the webinar so apologies if this is already covered elsewhere.

I’d like to know if you can hire a small mobility scooter in Japan. I have more freedom than most. I use crutches but can’t walk long distances. So I can use a folding mobility scooter on trains and get in and out of it. I’ve read about the Joy Cart which seems ideal but I can’t find any information about whether I can rent/buy one in Japan.

These are my specific questions, sorry there are so many!

    1. Can I hire the Joy Cart or other folding mobility scooter in Japan?

    2. If so where from?

I’m starting in Tokyo so it would be great to be able to rent one at the airport or have one delivered to my hotel.

    3. Can I ride it on the pavement/sidewalk in Tokyo?

    4. Can I take it on the subway?

    And on the Shinkasen?

    5. Do I need a special certificate to use it?

    6. Could I hire one in Tokyo, ride it all over Japan for two weeks and deliver it back to Naha Airport when my holiday ends?

Thank you for your patience in reading this long message. Many thanks to any one of you wonderful people who can guide me for the holiday of my dreams!🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻

addition to the link: there are multiple locations in Tokyo (see map with locations) where you can hire through the site of WHILL (although no personal experience). But maybe you can contact them and ask what you need to know about hiring and delivering at another location.

My wife just visited Tokyo last week and used a mobility scooter (her own, she can walk short distances, but not more than 100m) and it´s quite easy to go around. Also going in and out the metro was not too difficult, although going to the platforms via lifts was sometimes challenging. All n all finding lifts in general is a challenge, but doable.

No experience with the shinkansen, though.

If you want then I can ask to write you her experience in more detail.

    Hi Jo

I had similar problem like yours and was very worried how I would manage. Luckily I came across this company TokudAw Inc. and was able to hire this fantastic Whill mobility which made my travels so easy and enjoyable. Check their website( I have left a review on Whill). You can contact Wanping via email wanping@tokudaw.com she will help you if you need more information about hiring. Pam
