I have only been to Kenya once in 2017 and we stayed at Angama (this is their website https://angama.com/). They created a wheelchair accessible tent specifically for me as I used to work for the now owners before I had my stroke which unfortunately left me in a wheelchair. We spent a wonderful 4 days there and saw so much wildlife it was terrific. I’m lucky as I can still stand so I was able to get into the Landrover to go on game drives😀. All the staff were wonderful and incredibly attentive to my needs. On the morning that we left I took the Managers round Patty’s Tent (that is what it is called 😃) and told them what was wrong with it, I don’t think they had a wheelchair person design it so it was a little impractical for me. Although I’m in a wheelchair I do try to do as much for myself as possible and just had to point out little things like they needed a wheelchair button on the wonderful wooden door, that would have meant that I could have gone to my tent on my own rather than having to ask someone to assist me to get into my tent. I do hope they have taken my thoughts on board as it will make it easier for the next wheelchair person to use. I do like to think that I assist other people with disabilities to get around a bit better.
