A touching story. However, my biggest thought was why are these beach wheelchairs $5000?! They are cloth, bent metal tubes and inflatable tires! I know it is likely due few being manufactured so prices go up, but seriously, there are sooo many people and beaches that could use them but are likely turned off by the price……

I’ve seen some pretty sturdy looking wheelchair-style shower chairs (so they should already be waterproof) in only the 100’s of dollars, they don’t have the beach tires but I can’t imagine the bulk of the cost being the tires, I would think it retrofitting them wouldn’t be a big issue.
There was a post from last year outlining 11 airports with adult-sized changing tables, and now there are 15! Hopefully the pace will pick up, but at least there is progress.
