I wish there were more details on this… in Japan you currently don’t need any advanced reservations for local trains, just show up and tell staff where you want to go and they help you on… so, not sure what it could add to the experience? Any ideas? (Would be great for bullet train and express trains though)

Half cup full: glad they are trying something new to improve the experience and accessibility. Might be helpful for folks with a routine travel schedule and need staff assistance…sorta like a advance booking.
Cup half empty: retro fit platform to have level boarding at more stations. I’ve tried the pink narrow gaps entrance at several JR stations, the vertical gap is sometimes still too high and the horizontal gaps could be narrower.
