• Hello!

My husband and are going to Japan in October/early November. We would love to attend a tea ceremony, preferably in Kyoto where we’ll be a couple of days. Problem: I have a congenital myopathy, which means that I can walk, get down on the floor, and sit on the floor comfortably, but I can’t get up off the floor unassisted. My husband can help, but it’s… not an elegant process, lol. I’m not that heavy, only 55kg, and I can move myself up onto a chair and get up from there. But my leg muscles aren’t strong enough to get myself up from the floor.

Does anyone know any accessible places that offer tea ceremonies? Perhaps seated on western-style chairs, or (ideally!) where assistance in getting up is available? Other places we’re visiting include Tokyo, Hakone, Nagoya (just for one night though), Kanazawa, Hiroshima and Osaka.

      Thanks in advance!
