Since there is no information about this I thought I’d post a bit about what’s helped me.
Arranging wheelchair assistance at the airport can make a big difference. It will mean being able to get through passport control much more quickly.
I have found being organised has made a big difference too.
Having a list of the medications you’re taking is extremely helpful, especially if you need to get permits when entering certain countries. I know that whenever I visit Japan I have to get a permit for one of the medicaitons I’m on. I also have a letter from my doctor with a list of my conditions, which is also helpful. Other letters from your specialists can often help as well.
I also carry a copy of permits with me so that I can show officials which often means getting through immigration quicker.
Staying close to train stations and facilities you need to access is very helpful too.
Make sure if you have mobility issues that you check that hotels have a lift and also ask for help to your room. You’d be surprised what difference this can make.

I feel like this was me writing this! Totally agree and do all the things you mentioned in your post. Particularly about wheelchair assistance at the airports – I have always had such a positive experience with special assistance and with the flight crew. It has saved me being in long queues and in pain trying to travel and really reduces the stress and anxiety when travelling. Again, totally agree with being organised with meds and how it can help – I am yet to travel to a country where taking my meds through security is difficult, although I will be travelling to Japan in November and will be super prepared with translations if I can of the medications I need to have with me.
I always check out hotels with a lift / easy-access and always take notice of how far I would need to travel to get on public transport links. Such great advice and again, would recommend this for anyone who needs it!😀1 -
I have found JAL amazing in helping passengers that require special assistance. ANA on the other hand are shocking in my experience 🌸
