• Wheelchair-friendly 1-day trips destinations from Tokyo?

Hi! Soon I’ll be traveling to Japan with my husband. We have already been there several times, but this one we will be traveling with a transport wheelchair, as he can’t push himself in a traditional one and it’s more confortable for both of us. He can stand if it’s necessary, but his disability involves fast fatigue, and that’s why we have a foldable one, so I can’t push him to sit and rest (but continue the travel) as soon as it kicks in.

My question is, can you recommend us any destination what is friendly for his disability? Meaning, one in which we can just stop and move around with the wheelchair at any point or easily find buildings to stop by and have lunch and rest. I’m thinking in places like Odaiba or even Kamakura at most, which have easy ‘flooring’ types (so, no rocks or just plain soil).

      Thanks deeply in advance!

      • The Great Buddha of Kamakura/Kotoku-in Temple is fully accessible (including restrooms) and free to wheelchair users with a disability card. Komachi-dori shopping street is accessible and leads you directly to the spacious Tsurugaoka Hachimangu Shrine. Although, the main sanctuary is not accessible, it is said to be very beautiful and worth the trip. If you need help planning an accessible vacation, just reach out: everywhere4everyone.com.

      • How about the following options?

        Toyosu & Tsukiji
The markets and commercial facilities are barrier-free.
You can visit Toyosu Market, enjoy a sushi lunch, and then stroll by the seaside and go shopping at LaLaport Toyosu.

Yokohama – Minato Mirai & Yamashita Park
From Sakuragicho Station, the Minato Mirai area has very few steps.
You can visit the Red Brick Warehouse, Cup Noodles Museum, stroll around Minato Mirai, and walk along the seaside promenade at Yamashita Park, which is flat and has many resting spots.

In addition, if you are using a foldable wheelchair, may I also suggest considering our foldable electric scooter?
It can be easily loaded into taxis and trains, and as it handles slopes well, it may help expand your range of activities.
