  • How to search for something in the Japan group

I am relatively new to this group. How do I search for a topic – eg booking shinkansen accessible seats? I’m sure most of my questions have been asked previously.

    • Hello!
At the beginning of the feed of a group, there is a search button that looks like a looking glass. You can type in your keyword and it will filter the activity below to only show results with that keyword.

On desktop there is a “search tabifolk” button in the header, on mobile it just shows the magnifying glass on the top right of…

    • plan a trip to Tokyo and Kyoto

      Hi everyone,

We are a family of 5 (parents and 3 adult children) planning to visit Japan for the first time at the end of March, for two weeks (Tokyo and Kyoto). Not sure where to start and looking for help planning the trip, especially with regards to booking hotels. I am an ambulatory wheelchair user, trouble finding accessible rooms…

      • I read that Accessible Japan is a good starting point. I’m planning a trip in April myself so I’m in the same boat. Most of the hotels don’t seem to have email addresses and since I’m the US and don’t speak Japanese, using the phone is not an option.

      • As @Castleboston mentioned, we have some listings on Accessible Japan but it is still just a drop in the bucket. A travel agent may be the best option.

      • Aqua net Ferry

I need help from someone who can speak English and Japanese to help me book a ferry trip for Miyajima Island to Hiroshima Peace Park for 6 people (including one wheelchair person) on 3rd April 2026 departing the island @ 1310. I called them on the phone from Australia 0011 81 82 2405955 and they only spoke a little bit of English and she could…

        • Hi David,

          Nice to meet you.

I saw your post—yes, that’s the Aqua Net “World Heritage Route.” I’ve assisted with this route before, so I’ll give them a call shortly and check the booking details for you.

If you’re okay with it, it may be easier (and safer to avoid any misunderstandings) to continue by email as well.

          You can reach me at:

          • Hello☺️

I don’t know which company’s ship you are planning to board, but generally, reservations are not necessary. Some shipping companies reserve multiple wheelchair spaces. My client used the same service last year and had no problems. The ferry runs every 10 to 15 minutes, just like a bus. If you are worried, I recommend arriving at the dock…

        • Repair wheelchair

Hej Hello, we arrived in Japan for 10+ days ago and my father’s wheelchair couldn’t handle all the bumps from the road so I wonder where we can repair the front (previously I wrote rear, but I meant the tiny front wheels) wheels or buy some new parts?

The wheels are pretty much bent and can barely take my father’s weight and the height of…

          • Hi! I’m not sure whether we can repair your father’s wheelchair directly, but I can introduce places in Osaka where you may be able to rent a wheelchair or buy replacement parts / a new wheelchair.

If you need help, please feel free to contact me at: [email protected]

            • Hi

What type of wheelchair? Likely @tak is your best option for getting connected in Osaka. There is also https://www.ngt-k.com/en/ in Osaka.

If it is just tightening some screws/bolts, or even patching a tire, often bicycle shops are kind enough to do little things.

            • Public transportation in Tokyo and Kyoto

I am a wheelchair user and will visit Japan for the first time in April (so it’ll be busy season). How accessible are buses and subways in Tokyo and Kyoto; how easy is it to get around using public transportation instead of using taxis? Are there apps I should download and use for both public transportation and for taxis?

              • Good to hear visiting Japan.

About transportation by train, Accessible Japan site mentioned.

                So pls check it.

Many travelers who use wheelchair visit Japan.

                Normally they use electric wheelchair.

They use google maps for select transportation methods.

They said sometime difficult to find elevator, so they need to walk for finding.

                Some normal Taxi…

I was in Japan last April. Public transportation is good with a wheelchair. Some stations are huge and the most difficult part is knowing where to go. Public taxis usually have a ramp to get on but spaces are limited so you have to check in before and many many many taxi drivers are not used to use the ramp so they seem uncomfortable and…
