Hi, does anyone know if the buses from Kagoshima to the Chiran Kamakazi Peace Museum and Samurai District are Wheelchair accessible? Thanks

When I took my daughter to Japan earlier this year we used her blue badge parking permit (UK government issue) with generally positive results. It’s got her name and photo on it and it is in multiple languages. I think Australia has something similar.

Rented mobility scooter at Tokyo Disney. It’s slow, 3km is max speed which is a crawl. Wondered why I didn’t see anyone using the scooter but it did allow me to have a seat to rest when there weren’t seats available.
Does anyone have experience of riding a lightweight scooter or travelling in a manual lightweight wheelchair (with non off-road wheels) over gravel? For example the paths in the Kyoto Imperial Palace: https://www.accessible-japan.com/places/japan/kyoto/kyoto/attractions/kyoto-imperial-palace/

My daughter managed to negotiate the gravel without much difficulty. She has Loopwheels Extreme with Schwalbe Marathon tyres (so they’re slightly wider than solid rubber). The gravel in the park is quite fine but is thick in places. I recommend you go up the street immediately to the West of the park and go in the gate nearest the palace…

Unfortunately, it really depends on the location – some places have really thick gravel, others it is more like a dusting over hard packed dirt. Some places even have a plastic/rubber loop mat under the gravel to keep it firmer.

In Japan residents are given disability certificates (with a photo like a passport) from their local municipality. This allows discounts at many places.
For foreign visitors, while they should get similar discounts at tourist attractions, we have found there have been discrepancies based on the facility’s policies or misunderstanding of staff…
