  • Buying w/chair ticket for Shinkansen travel in May

    Hi

I am coming to Japan at the end of April and I want to buy a Shinkansen ticket for Hiroshima to Kyoto on May 6. I have been told I can’t buy a train ticket online till one month before travel. Do any of you know of a way I can buy now because I don’t want to run the risk of not being able to travel on that date.

    Many thanks.

    James

    • Unfortunately the 30 day rule applies to everyone. Tickets are available from (I think) 01:30am Tokyo time. There’s many trains so if you get in early you should be able to get what you want. As you are travelling from Hiroshima it might be easier than from Tokyo.

      • Thanks Maury.🙏

        • Most hotels should have a shower chair but it unfortunately isn’t guaranteed.

@tak can likely help in Osaka and maybe @ohayotravel in Tokyo can point you in the right direction

        • Bareer-free accommodation for a group of wheelchair tourists

          Hi everyone!

I’m happy to join your community!

Being a wheelchair user, I hope soon enough I’ll be able to come to Japan myself but for now I’m trying to help some nice people out 😌

I’ve been trying to find bareer-free accommodation for a group of 4 wheelchair users + 2 walking people. They have three important conditions: 1) they need at least…

            • Onsens/private baths wheelchair

Are there any accessible onsens or private baths you can reccomend? Noticed I won’t be able to access a couple of the hotels. I have booked pool areas. Some of them are just saying no wheelchair is allowed in the pool area. Others are saying there are steps to the pool area. I was really planning on going to the pool or Jacuzzi every day.

                • There are many wheelchair-accessible, barrier-free onsen options across Japan.

If you could share your location and travel dates, I’d be happy to recommend some suitable places for you.

              • Help with Wheelchair use and needs in Japan

Hello, I am traveling to Japan in March. I am a very limited walker who wears braces. I know at Disneyland I can rent an electric scooter. I am assuming in Disney see I can also rent one. Does anyone know if I need to reserve it ahead of time. I’m also wondering at other places like temples, can I get a wheelchair there just for that…

                • I think Disney is first come first serve

                  • It is first come first serve and they are very limited so I recommend getting there early. Also, be aware, the electric scooters in Disney are VERY slow. They go a max of 2km per hour. I’m in a similar situation of not being able to walk full Disney days as an above the knee amputee. You might find this helpful. …
