Concern among the Japanese public over the virus and the proliferation of more contagious variants led to the decision, say officials.
For those who had hoped to visit Japan for the Paralympics, it looks like it may not be open to foreign visitors:

Tokyo Olympic spectators may be limited to Japan residents
An official said the decision on how many spectators will be allowed to support athletes in the stands at each venue will be made by the end of April.
