Airport via Narita Express or Keisei and train to Kyoto
We’re traveling as a family of 3 in a couple weeks. I’m bringing my Whill C2 electric wheelchair, but my other two family members are ambulatory. We’re landing in Narita. I’ve read conflicting information– that I need to reserve a seat in advance and that it’s better to just wait to get a seat/ticket on either the Narita Express or Keisei when…
RachWill and Tak6 CommentsHello ☺️
There are two types of wheelchair seats on the Shinkansen: those that allow you to remain in your wheelchair, and those that allow you to transfer from your wheelchair to a regular seat. The former is more of a “space reservation” than a “seat.” The latter not only reserves a space, but also allows you to use the seat next to you as… Read more1- View 4 replies
I think you do need reservations for Narita Express or Keisei SkyLiner. But there are also regular express trains that you can just get on. So, while waiting for another answer, at least be reassured you will have an option no matter what.
Buying disinfectant in Tokyo
I need some disinfectant to wash some catheter products whilst we are in Japan. Can i buy this from a supermarket – we are staying in Ginza 6 ? In Australia we use Pine O Clean as pictured.
You can get kitchen bleach like the ones here from a drug store (and I assume a supermarket) for sure.
It looks like this Matsumoto Kiyoshi (big drug store chain) would be close: https://maps.app.goo.gl/tLPQ5K6m75MHnnyt9

Hotels for hoist users P3
Hi everyone!
I just booked my flight to Japan in September for a 2-week stay — super excited! Now I’m working on accessible accommodation and could use some help.
I’ve read that the following hotels might work with a hoist (or be compatible with bed raisers), and I’m hoping someone can check with them for details:
Tokyo Dome Hotel (not near…
Will you be bringing your own hoist?

Assistance boarding trains
Do I always need to have assistance when I get on a train ? I’ll be doing multiple transfers moving around Tokyo and Osaka with my family and can normally move on a train without problems.
No, if you can do it yourself, then that is fine. I know many people who don’t get assistance and ride around either by popping a wheelie themselves or having a companion do it.
When you go through staff may ask but you can just say you are fine.
If you are ever in need of help, there will be an intercom somewhere on the platform you can use to…
2I normally travel with my husband so we do not require assistance from the staff. We just signal we are ok and it’s totally fine.

Booking Shinkansen for individual trips
I am coming to Japan(Tokyo & Osaka) in March.
As l will only be requiring two seperate trips on the Shinkansen. (Tokyo to Osaka & Osaka to Narita Airport) we have decided not to buy the 7 or 14 day pass but purchase individual tickets for each trip.
We are 3 persons one in a manual wheelchair.
Can we buy individual tickets before we…

1You can book on line 30 days before travel. There’s limited wheelchair space so do it as soon as you can to be sure of your arrangements.
