  • I have a question about European opera houses. A catch-22 situation has happened to me three times recently. I am a (Canadian) wheelchair user. Within recent years, in order to book a wheelchair seat on-line, I must show a disability ID card certifying my disability. I cannot get such a card as I’m not an EU citizen and we don’t have these…

    • @Sonia do you have any suggestions for this?

Do you need to upload an image etc?

While it wouldn’t likely be officially recognized per se, you may want to get an Access2 Card. It does require a form filled out by a healthcare professional, so if asked you can show them the application requires that and it is the only…

      • I am not sure, I’ve never experienced this with my mom. Do you have an international wheelchair parking card? that could be proof enough or a doctors note.

      • Where would you go twice?

Where is a place that impressed you so much with beauty, culture, or accessibility that you want to go back?

        • Many, many places but on the top of the list is Japan. We did a trip around Christmas but stayed in the Tokyo area. Upon our return it didn’t take us more than a month to book a cruise of multiple ports in Japan which was fantastic. And we are looking forward to making another trip in the future!

        • Hotels for hoist users P2

Hi, I asked this question before and now know some of the top-end luxury hotels where hoists work with the bed. However, I’m also interested in whether there are any lesser-known and more affordable mid-range hotels around Tokyo where the beds have enough space underneath for a hoist, and that also provide enough room to use the hoist for…

          • Do you have any suggestions @ohayotravel or @wtj ?

            • I would think that most hotel’s house keeping staff would be able to supply bed lifts similar to the ones used to raise tables.. But you sure need to check before you go!

            • Powerchair Charger

As I am planning a trip to japan next year and using a powerchair (permobil m5), I wanted to ask if it was possible to rent a charger (and if anyone has experience with that) for the chair in japan, as my charger only supports 115V 60hz and 230V 50hz (and ill be staying in tokyo so the frequency wont match as well). I plan to bring my own…

              • Hi,

I would be very surprised if a place just rented a charger (unless it broke mid-trip and they were doing it to help). Permobil has a Japan office with contact information at the bottom of the page you might want to try. https://permobilkk.jp/

You could also possibly get a step up/down converter. But they are big and heavy… *some*…

              • Also just asking as you already responded to me, do you know any hotels where the bed is high enough for a hoist (without solid frame) that are averagely priced? Because the fotos on the accessible japan site are not that great for estimating if the beds have a solid frame.

            • Celebrity Cruise

Hi there! I am not mobility challenged, but my future BIL is. He is a paraplegic in an electric wheelchair. We are looking at doing a cruise to Alaska for our wedding, and I’m trying to find out if Celebrity is a good, mobility friendly cruise line. I BELIEVE the ship would be the Celebrity Edge, which I think is the Ocean line? I’m new…

              • Hi –

I have multiple sclerosis and need to use a scooter to get around. My wife and I did a land/sea Alaska cruise several years ago on Princess and they were great. A lift was used to get me on and off the very comfortable train, which took us from Anchorage to Denali Park. A two days later we continued on it to the dock in Whittier. The train…
