• Hello, Guys. I am considering the possibility of solo traveling to japan in a wheelchair. I have traveled alone before, but never internationally. My biggest concern, as you can imagine, is my wheelchair breaking, so I would like to know if there is any type of insurance or other type of company that could provide help in an emergency like that. Something like repairing the chair or picking me up and taking me to hotel/airport. Thank you for any tip.

      Love

      • Sounds like a great adventure – but totally understand the concern.

I’m not aware of any insurance, but emergency repairs can happen. It would depend on your wheelchair though. Can you share the type?

        • @joshgrisdale I use a powered wheelchair. It’s a Brazilian brand, so I know specialized repair wouldn’t be available, but general repair would be fine. I am taking a look at the travel agency you mentioned before, maybe that could fit my needs in part.

      • Boa noite Vinicius, tudo bem?
Josh just told me about your post and I couldn’t help but notice you mentioned that you have a Brazilian chair? I am edging ever closer to needing to purchase a new chair myself, here in RS. Do you have any recommendation for me? I am a manual wheelchair user. Which brand is the best here, would you say? I have only ever had chairs that I bought in the UK, including Küschal, Pantera, and now Quickie, but I suspect these brands will be very expensive here (as they are already very expensive in the UK), so I am most definitely thinking to go with something Brazilian.
Anyway, sorry to hijack your post like this! I hope you and I can help to share more posts in the Brazil subgroup. I would also love to chat with you about your region. I am slowly but surely building accessiblebrazil.com… but it has a long, long, long way to go. Que vergonha! Kkkkkkkk.

        • @Anthony_TWIA boa noite, Anthony! No problem on hijacking my post, it’s a pleasure to help as I am being helped too haha. I have being using Freedom wheelchairs for the last 10 years. It’s very reliable, never had any major problem all this time. I am currently on my second wheelchair, but the first one is 10yo and still works, and I keep it as a backup. Their factory is in Pelotas, RS and there are some authorized workshops for maintenance in other cities too. Their website: https://freedom.ind.br/categoria-produto/cadeiras-de-rodas-motorizadas/

Nice to know about your blog project too, I have some experience traveling in Brazil, maybe I could give some contribution. Fill free to send me a friend request.
