I am traveling to Japan at the end of October until November. I have a mobility problem due to osteoarthritis in both knees. I am mobile but not for long distances. I would like to rent folding power wheel chair while visiting Hokkaido, Tokyo, Kyoto, Hiroshima and Osaka. Is it possible to rent one and bring it throughout the trip or do I have to make arrangements for every city?

A friend bought me a folding electric wheelchair which cost between $1,000 to $1,200. It may be more economical for you to buy one and take with you from the beginning of your trip. I guess you would have to find out if anybody rents one and how much it cost. If you did bring your own at least you would still have it with you at the end of the trip to use at home.

I have rheumatoid arthritis and like you need mobility assistance. I am hiring a Whill model F electric fold up wheelchair – it gets delivered to our hotel in Osaka – goes with me on our coach tour then it gets collected from our hotel Tokyo. Maybe this arrangement would suit for you – here is website

Check out the JOY Cart for your trip in Japan!
It’s super easy to take on the Shinkansen, trains, taxis, and even planes.
Pick it up at your first hotel, travel all around Japan together, and just drop it off at your final stop.
It weighs only 20 kg and is a scooter type, so it’s light and easy to handle.
