Accessible Travel DMCs in Japan

I work in the JNTO Sydney Office, and I have an inquiry from an Australian travel agency who is looking for accessible travel information on Japan.

Are there any specific DMCs in Japan that specialise in accessible travel? The agent is looking for someone who can help with equipment hire (commodes, specialized mattresses, etc.) while travelling in Japan.

The client will also be travelling with a campanion/carer, and is inquiring what policies are in place in Japan.

So far, I have forwarded the following sites:

    https://www.accessible-japan.com/
    https://www.accessible-japan.jp/index.html
    https://www.japan-accessible.com/

But if anyone has any specific companies that are willing to work with travel agents in Australia, please let me know.

    Hi Andrew,

The only places I know that are great at setting up tours for people with disabilities are Ohayo Travel ( @ohayotravel , https://ohatra.com/en ) and Inside Japan Tours. Ohayo Travel has lots of experience helping with rentals* etc and has a network of accessible tour centers across the country they can tap into. Inside Japan Tours has an AUS office I believe, but I don’t think they do secondment and would likely prefer to work with the client directly.

What do you mean by “The client will also be travelling with a campanion/carer, and is inquiring what policies are in place in Japan.”?

*Note that no company will rent a commode in Japan due to sanitary reasons, so they may need to bring one, or buy something here.

    Hi Josh,

That’s great news. I’ll pass on the information about Ohayo Travel. And I am in contact with Harry Sargant from Inside Japan Tours, so I’ll have a chat with him about it, too.

I’m am a disability advocate and have also travelled extensively in Japan. I would be happy to talk with them to see if I can help.
