Hi All, this summer we will be travelling 6 weeks in Japan with our family (3 kids). Our little son (6) has an wheelchair and it is his wish to ride the bullettrain. Do you know where I can easily buy Diapers for a bigger child? He does not fit the normal range anymore?

    Hi there!

Can you let me know your child’s waist size? Adult diapers are sold at any mid-size drug store. I looked it up and there are “super big” sizes for kids as well as S-size for adults and they are both for 50-70cm (about 20″-27″) waists.

    Would that work?

You don’t need an doctors recipe to get them? (This is the process in the netherlands, and you can’t buy them in supermarkets or drugstores)

If that is his weight and size, then the ones suggested by @allyhongo are probably the best.

Diapers are sold at stores here, even adult diapers for seniors. (Though, people with disabilities and seniors can get them for free from the city if they are a local resident.)

You may want to bring a stock of diapers with you though because depending on where your hotel is, there may not be a drug store nearby.

Sounds like you won’t have problems finding them then. When you’re in the diaper section at the supermarket/drugstore, just look for the kg part on the label (screenshot attached for reference). No need for prescriptions. One pack usually has around 25-30 diapers. Hope this helps and safe travels to Japan!

Thanks for the additional info, Ally.

I just popped across the street to the drug store and there were both the S-sized senior diapers and the big sized children’s diapers in ample supply. Both are less than 1000 yen for the package.

Later on in your planning when you know where you will be staying, feel free to ask and we can help find the nearest drug store. ✌

    Hi Renee,

Ditto to all Josh already said, but just want to add that the super big size diapers for kids are for children of up to 25-28kg, so depending on your kid’s weight, they could fit. Sold at most drugstores or even supermarkets. You can also find many options online and have them delivered to your accommodation. Here is an example of what they look like in Japan:
