Traveling with a companion - what's the hardest part to coordinate?
Planning a trip with a travel companion adds a whole layer of logistics that doesn’t come up much. Things like who pushes the chair vs. who handles the luggage, how you split up tasks at the airport, or figuring out hotel rooms that work for two people when one needs specific accessibility features.
And then there’s the money side – if…
Whenever I travel with a companion, I always pay for their airfare, accommodation and food and drink, as they are an essential part of my ability to travel (I’m a wheelchair user who likes to be as independent as possible, but I know I can’t do everything myself, sadly 😥)
Ever booked an "accessible" room that wasn't?
This seems to keep coming up — you book through a major platform, confirm the room, and then arrive to find a tub instead of a roll-in shower, or a “wheelchair accessible” room with a step at the door. What happened, and how did you handle it?
I try to book through the hotel chain’s official website as much as possible.
One of the few times the room wasn’t what I reserved was at the EXCALIBUR in Las Vegas. The bed’s box spring hadn’t been removed as requested and the shower had a step. I immediately went downstairs to the front desk. The security guard directed me ahead of everyone…

I’ve always travelled with my manual chair, but I hire a power chair at the destination I’m going to, not sure if this helps, but that’s what I do

We have encountered a case where a passenger’s personal electric scooter was damaged during a flight from Los Angeles to Narita.
The airline urgently arranged to rent one of our electric scooters, which the customer used during their trip. Although the airline initially stated that the scooter would be repaired before the customer’s return,… Read more

First time flying with a power wheelchair — what do you wish you'd known?
There’s always a lot to figure out the first time you fly with a power chair. Battery paperwork, hoping it arrives in one piece…
For those who’ve been through it, what’s the one thing you wish someone had told you beforehand? And if you’re gearing up for your first flight — what’s worrying you most?
I don’t have a wheelchair but use an ecv scooter because I can’t walk long distances. I learned a valuable lesson on a flight home from Tokyo 2 years ago from a guy also waiting on the plane for his electric wheelchair. He refused to get off the plane until his chair was there waiting for him so I refused as well. All other passengers had…
