JAL
What’s the best way to confirm that Japan Airlines has my special assistance request? I booked through Alaska Airlines originally. I have used the online chat twice. I submitted an online special assistance form and someone called me from a California number, but when I call JAL at its US number, it often just drops. I’m trying to travel with…

I agree! I’ve been unable to get a hold of anyone from JAL. I submitted my request for special assistance and my booking says the request is registered but I always like to confirm things by phone especially as it gets closer to flight date but it has been impossible to connect by phone. I am perpetually on hold (I timed it at over an hour one…

I was able to get an email address when I asked Google Gemini (AI). It even drafted an email template for me. The email didn’t bounce back so I hope it’s legit. I sent it yesterday so I haven’t heard back.
Here’s the email – jal_priority@ask.jal.co.jp
Here’s the webpage to request assistance in case you haven’t done this…1- View 1 reply

Rental shower chaid
I am looking for an agence in Tokyo and Osaka to rent a shower chair in case the hotel can’t provid one. Do you have any recommendations ? Thank you in advance,
-
Most hotels should have a shower chair but it unfortunately isn’t guaranteed.
@tak can likely help in Osaka and maybe @ohayotravel in Tokyo can point you in the right direction

Airport via Narita Express or Keisei and train to Kyoto
We’re traveling as a family of 3 in a couple weeks. I’m bringing my Whill C2 electric wheelchair, but my other two family members are ambulatory. We’re landing in Narita. I’ve read conflicting information– that I need to reserve a seat in advance and that it’s better to just wait to get a seat/ticket on either the Narita Express or Keisei when…

Hello ☺️
There are two types of wheelchair seats on the Shinkansen: those that allow you to remain in your wheelchair, and those that allow you to transfer from your wheelchair to a regular seat. The former is more of a “space reservation” than a “seat.” The latter not only reserves a space, but also allows you to use the seat next to you as… Read more1 -
I think you do need reservations for Narita Express or Keisei SkyLiner. But there are also regular express trains that you can just get on. So, while waiting for another answer, at least be reassured you will have an option no matter what.

Accessibility in restaurants
I’m an ambulatory wheelchair user – I can stand and walk with canes but steps and stairs are hard for me. Any tips for finding wheelchair accessible restaurants (aside from the info on Accessible Japan) and if a restaurant is too small to navigate with a wheelchair, it is ok/safe to leave my wheelchair outside the restaurant while I just use…

We had great luck on the top floors of department stores … generally a variety of restaurants, easy elevator access, and you can eyeball which will fit a wheelchair (though leaving outside was an option..) Bonus is sometimes you get city views too :-).

Hi there! I am also partially ambulatory and had no issues either leaving my wheelchair (it’s foldable) near the restaurant entrance or even outside (like at a mall or food court).

Help with Wheelchair use and needs in Japan
Hello, I am traveling to Japan in March. I am a very limited walker who wears braces. I know at Disneyland I can rent an electric scooter. I am assuming in Disney see I can also rent one. Does anyone know if I need to reserve it ahead of time. I’m also wondering at other places like temples, can I get a wheelchair there just for that…

I think Disney is first come first serve
-
It is first come first serve and they are very limited so I recommend getting there early. Also, be aware, the electric scooters in Disney are VERY slow. They go a max of 2km per hour. I’m in a similar situation of not being able to walk full Disney days as an above the knee amputee. You might find this helpful. …
