When the talk of autonomous vehicles started, they frequently mentioned accessibility and freedom for those who couldn’t operate their own vehicle or get in regular taxis.
However, things aren’t shaping up that way in many places. What are your thoughts? What are the rules and prototypes like in your country?

A friend of mine just bought a self driving car. I was also thinking about how this could help with accessibility – I am partially ambulatory but operating the pedals is getting increasingly difficult for me. The rules here are such that there must be a person sitting in the driver’s seat so I think it’s a long way from providing full access…

I think governments should have these be in paratransit fleets on a widespread level, because the cost barrier for disabled people is very high for these

Accessible Onsen in Shuzenji (Shizuoka)
Hi all,
On the weekend I went to an onsen in Shuzenji (about 1-2hr from Tokyo) that I thought I would share about, called Marukyu.
The are no steps at the entrance and the cafe, restaurant, and lounge. There is an elevator big enough for a wheelchair user and 1-2 people.

By chance were you travelling with luggage? If so, where did you put it? I can’t seem to find a wheelchair seat that also allows oversized luggage space. Is there something I am doing wrong?

@Data unfortunately luggage is a huge issue for any seat. There is overhead storage but it is a bit limited – the Shinkansen design was only taking business travellers and locals on short trips into mind and not a lot of space was created for traveling with large suitcases.
