  • Separate toilets

    Hi

When I was in Canada, and when I visited the US, the toilets generally had an “accessible stall” that had some hand rails and was slightly bigger. The male/female toilet split always was hard when my primary caregiver at the time was my mom.

I was pleasantly surprised when I moved to Japan and they had a separate single-person unisex toilet…

    • Many new and larger buildings have a separate family toilet, but you really can’t depend on finding one. Even our best toilets aren’t like toilets in Japan. Our best is a roomy family toilet with grab bars, an accessible sink, and a rare changing table for infants. No bidets, no adult changing tables, and colostomy toilets. We still have…

    • Newer buildings are getting better about adding a unisex or family bathroom, but a lot of people aren’t educated on the multiple reasons for a bathroom like this and are making it political (and referring to transgender people). I don’t know how much this ideology goes into building plans, but when the average contractor is in their mid 50s,…

  • Legal action on bed height accessibility

This slipped past my radar, but so glad to see it. Sometimes the bed heights are downright dangerous to transfer from/to. I hope this brings global change!

    • Osaka accessibility review requests

      Hey all

Heading to Osaka next week to see a friend and we may do a review for Accessible Japan.

Are there any places you’d like us to visit that isn’t already on Accessible Japan?

      • Osaka is so popular and such a big city. We weren’t with our son so we weren’t looking for accessibility and we were still overwhelmed. We even lost out camper van not being able to find our parking lot for awhile :). We could have used a good map with locations of great bathrooms and good restaurants.
