  • what if ... damaged wheelchair

    Hi everybody,

I was just asking myself about a situation that may happen, after my last problem flying with Air France last year.

What can I do if my electric wheelchair is damaged during the flight from Paris to Tokyo, and I find my wheelchair not working when I get it back after the flight ?

Do you know if there is any procedure or service I…

    • Greetings,

I had that happen with Westjet. The airline is responsible, so it is important not to leave the airport until everything is rectified to your satisfaction. Sidenote, I actually had one of their mechanics try to argue that it must have not worked when we boarded the plane, because they could not have damaged it. [Sir, how do you think…

      • Permobil have an office in Tokyo. From my experience, it is a user-first company and would be happy to help users who are stuck overseas and need help with their chair if they have staff available. Contact page just in case you need it, but hopefully you don’t! https://www.permobil.com/ja-jp/連絡先

      • Cancelled

I had lost a huge message and it said there was a bug. I haven’t been able to get back in here til today. It was in green writing so I think it was from Tabifolk.

Update – after many tears and sleepless nights I’ve decided not to go to Japan. I felt I was lynched at the meeting we had. Eight of us were going together to Japan in October. This…

        • Wendy, please don’t be discouraged! I don’t know if this means anything to you, but I’m paraplegic. I cannot walk at all, and I travel all around the world by myself. If you have to make the plans to travel by yourself, I have found the support in this group to make all the accommodations and arrangements. You don’t need other people to have…

          • Thanks so much hun. I won’t be travelling with this group. Imagine how horrible they would be. I am looking for somewhere else to go. I don’t think I’d cope going away by myself. I have panic attacks. Not that they know as they are rare. I’m sure there must be groups that take disabled away on trips. Does anyone know of any? I’m in Australia. Xxx

          • Coming to Tokyo for New Year’s Eve

What hotel should I stay in for the best views of Tokyo’s celebration of the new year? I would like my own bathroom with a bathtub. I am ok with them just putting a bench in a normal bathtub but I need to make sure that the door to the bathroom is 69cm or wider bc I cannot shrink my wheelchair. I understand a lot of handicapped bathrooms have…

I assume you mean the next new years and I’m not to late!

We have hotels listed on Accessible Japan but just a drop in the bucket… but it can be a good place to start. I may suggest getting a travel agent to help with booking hotels.

As for Disney, in general, the rule is that you must be able to evacuate by yourself in an emergency…
