  • Wheelchair or scooter?

When I travel abroad, I usually hire a scooter for outdoors and an electric wheelchair for indoors.

We are coming to Japan in September and will be staying in five different locations. This means moving a scooter and a wheelchair will probably be too hard.

So, I have rented a Whill model F.

Anybody know if this is suitable…

    • It is designed for both indoor and outdoors and you see them frequently. No problems in restaurants (more than any other wheelchair anyway).

You may be able to rent an extra batter as well. Then less to worry about when going long distances.

      • Hello.

I run a taxi company in Osaka for people with disabilities. I also use Whill. I think the F model is a great, compact, and good model, but compared to the C2 model, it is significantly less capable of overcoming bumps and running on gravel roads. Kyoto’s shrines and temples have many gravel roads, so you may have some difficulty…

    • Repair wheelchair

Hej Hello, we arrived in Japan for 10+ days ago and my father’s wheelchair couldn’t handle all the bumps from the road so I wonder where we can repair the front (previously I wrote rear, but I meant the tiny front wheels) wheels or buy some new parts?

The wheels are pretty much bent and can barely take my father’s weight and the height of…

      • Hi! I’m not sure whether we can repair your father’s wheelchair directly, but I can introduce places in Osaka where you may be able to rent a wheelchair or buy replacement parts / a new wheelchair.

If you need help, please feel free to contact me at: flatcare2025@gmail.com

        • Hi

What type of wheelchair? Likely @tak is your best option for getting connected in Osaka. There is also https://www.ngt-k.com/en/ in Osaka.

If it is just tightening some screws/bolts, or even patching a tire, often bicycle shops are kind enough to do little things.

        • Japan group tour question

Hi everyone. Husband and I have FINALLY decided to go to Japan in November 2026. We’ve been wanting to go for our 30 years of married life but we have always said “yeah we’ll do that trip later”. Later is now.😊. I am an above knee amputee since 2020 with limited mobility. I get fatigued after walking with my cane for long distances. Costco…

          • Glad to hear you decided to come!

I haven’t been on any of TokudAw’s trips but have worked with them for a long time and Wanping is great. (Though note they only do the tour part, so if you want a company that can do accessible room bookings you may need to find another one… but you are likely fine without I’m guessing.)

            If the wheelchair is…

            • @Josh Grisdale thanks for this information. Would you happen to know of an accessible group tour company that takes care of everything…hotel reservations, meals, day tours etc. Going this route would be less stressful for us. As far as electric wheelchair rentals in Japan, are they made smaller to be more accommodating?? Or ?? I don’t…

I’m a huge Gundam and Guampla Fan. And I would like to go to the Gundam base has anybody ever been and do you know if it’s pretty accessible or not?

            • Accessible Japan site mentioned as below. The statue is a 5-10 minute walk from the fully accessible Daiba Station on the Yurikamome Line, next to the DiverCity Tokyo Plaza shopping mall.

You can easily approach the statue in a wheelchair, and see it from all angles.

              • We took our client to there on the other day. It’s no problem to go through everywhere inside of the store with wheelchairs.

Please watch our video on YouTube, it shows the inside of the store.
