Sky Hop on hop off bus in Kyoto
Hi, does anyone have any experience of the Sky HOHO bus in Kyoto? Is it wheelchair accessible or do I need to rely on Taxis and public transport.
Thanks 😊
4 CommentsView more commentsWe used ordinary buses in Kyoto. They are nearly all accessible and can get you to most destinations. There’s also a metro. You need to download the bus map and try, out of consideration for the local people, to avoid peak travel time. The bus driver will have to operate the ramp at the middle door and fold up the seats. It’s a good idea to…

I sent an email and will follow up… but just wanted to say I was in Kyoto a few weeks ago and I’m not sure I even saw any of these. As @Gofer mentioned, the subways and regular buses are accessible and can get you most places much cheaper.
Looking at the buses (https://skyhopbus.com/kyoto/bus_introduction) I would say the “Crystal” is…

Fushima inari
Hi there
Im heading to Japan with my sister in May and would love to take her to the Fushima Inari Tori gates. I know that not all of the Tori gates are accessible so we would only see a few. Where my confusion is, Accessible Japan advises that
a. There is an elevator that will take you to the start of the gates
b. Get there early before 9am…
View more commentsHello. ☺️
The elevator at Fushimi Inari Shrine is available until 4 PM. You must use the elevator to reach the torii gates. You can pass through the main torii gate, so you can enjoy the experience without having to see all of them.
Best Regards.
Tak
Thank you
we wanted to go early in the morning at 7am so that there are less people
if the only way is with the elevator we will have to go later

Hakodate Station to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto
Hello,
I am an eletric power wheelchair user (Permobil M3 corpus) and I will stay in Hakodate this summer. We need to use the local Hakodate train to go from Hakodate Station to Shin-Hakodate-Hokuto station to take the Shinkansen for Tokyo.
I was told the the train from Hakodate to Shin-Hakodate may have a step to get in. I took a lot of trains…
You shouldn’t have a problem with boarding the train. Some of the rural trains have a step up inside the train but the urban ones have an almost flat floor level with the platform. If you make yourself known to the station staff in Hakodate (get there at least 20 minutes before the train departs they will get you on board and also tell the…
1I have taken a few rural trains like in Aomori and it should be fine, especially as Shin-Hakodate to Hakodate would be common for anyone going to Hakone from Tokyo by train.
They will still be a ramp, just a longer one. I’ve use a 2m one before.
From Taipei to Okinawa power wheelchair issue
Just sharing an experience that I had recently while flying from Taipei to Okinawa (Naha) with EVA Air.
At Taipei international airport when checking in, they told me that in Naha, due to the airport’s regulation, I would not be able to use my power wheelchair and that I would have to pick it up at baggage claim with the rest of my luggage.
I…
Thank you for your post. I am preparing for a trip to Japan and I have a power assist battery on my manual wheelchair also. It is seeming like I should just not even try to bring the power assist part so that my chair will not have a battery at all. These airports all seem to make everything difficult when there is a battery involved. It would…

Leaving a scooter outside a restaurant or shop in Japan.
Hi Everyone,
my name is Oliver and I have cerebral palsy.
So I’m going to Japan in late November to early December for about two weeks and am super excited. I will most likely bring a scooter called DashMoto 3. I can walk, but I can’t do it for long periods of time and I will be going with a group of friends as well.
My main concern is if I go to…
View more commentsGood question. Following as I’d like to know if it is okay to secure the scooter with a bike lock at front too. I suspect it will depend on space in front of the restaurant etc. keen to know what others have experienced
1Would love to know as well. I posted a similar question in a FB group since I’m an ambulatory wheelchair user. Folks said it is ok and safe to leave it outside (I think the challenge would be if the sidewalk is narrow)
