Fushima inari
Hi there
Im heading to Japan with my sister in May and would love to take her to the Fushima Inari Tori gates. I know that not all of the Tori gates are accessible so we would only see a few. Where my confusion is, Accessible Japan advises that
a. There is an elevator that will take you to the start of the gates
b. Get there early before 9am…

The elevator at Fushimi Inari Shrine is available until 4 PM. You must use the elevator to reach the torii gates. You can pass through the main torii gate, so you can enjoy the experience without having to see all of them.
Best Regards.
Tak
Thank you
we wanted to go early in the morning at 7am so that there are less people
if the only way is with the elevator we will have to go later

From Taipei to Okinawa power wheelchair issue
Just sharing an experience that I had recently while flying from Taipei to Okinawa (Naha) with EVA Air.
At Taipei international airport when checking in, they told me that in Naha, due to the airport’s regulation, I would not be able to use my power wheelchair and that I would have to pick it up at baggage claim with the rest of my luggage.
I…
View more commentsThank you for your post. I am preparing for a trip to Japan and I have a power assist battery on my manual wheelchair also. It is seeming like I should just not even try to bring the power assist part so that my chair will not have a battery at all. These airports all seem to make everything difficult when there is a battery involved. It would…

Hotel Tokyo
Bonjour, Je suis en fauteuil électrique et je recherche des hôtels adapté a Tokyo.
Hugo
Bonjour Hugo.
I can understand your question but cannot reply back in French. Hopefully you can just translate my response.
I also have a power wheelchair but it is compact and foldable. I can also stand up and walk. If you’re ambulatory, the Mimaru hotel chain is good. They are responsive thru email and provide room measurements on their…
Also want to add that the term they use for wheelchair accessible is “universal design” or “barrier-free”
Leaving a scooter outside a restaurant or shop in Japan.
Hi Everyone,
my name is Oliver and I have cerebral palsy.
So I’m going to Japan in late November to early December for about two weeks and am super excited. I will most likely bring a scooter called DashMoto 3. I can walk, but I can’t do it for long periods of time and I will be going with a group of friends as well.
My main concern is if I go to…
View more commentsGood question. Following as I’d like to know if it is okay to secure the scooter with a bike lock at front too. I suspect it will depend on space in front of the restaurant etc. keen to know what others have experienced
1Would love to know as well. I posted a similar question in a FB group since I’m an ambulatory wheelchair user. Folks said it is ok and safe to leave it outside (I think the challenge would be if the sidewalk is narrow)

Removing shoes
Hi, just looking for any tips for removing shoes for an above-knee amputee with a prosthetic leg. Going without shoes can be slippery, any suggestions for options? Thanks so much.
View more commentsI think I would have designated shoes for inside. Designated slippers are worn inside possibility you could have slippers that have a good sole if you can find some that provide the support you need.
2Find a good slipper that you can carry with you. There are restaurants / chain izakayas / hotels that supply slippers, but they tend to be on the small side. Bringing our own slipper may be admired for its ingenuity, but that would be only reaction. Just make sure your inside never touches the outside.
