If I can add my two cents, we found Japanese people to be very friendly. We speak near zero japanese (basics like excuse me, thank you, yes, no). Most places (especially in big cities) people speak a little English and the rest you can manage through pictures and pointing!

I think you have some information already on tours. As far as hotels, it depends on where in the city you’d like to stay. I can recommend the Tokyo Station Maronuchi and Hotel Celestine Ginza. I can get along without a fully disabled room and these had separate showers (not bathtub only- which is a deal breaker for me).
